On January 26th, 2013, ONE and 350 New England are hosting a day of regional action for the environment in Portland Maine! Topics on the table include; fracking in the Pioneer Valley; the Northern Pass project; the Vermont Yankee power plant; and, of course, the infamous Trailbreaker tar sands pipeline! After the rally, we will be meeting to discuss this year’s events. The event might be catered by Food Not Bombs Portland, so come on an empty stomach!

More details to come. If your group needs funds to get to Portland, we might be able help.

Hands Across New hampshire

Posted August 21st, 2012 by admin • permalink

Hands Across New Hampshire is a peaceful, nonviolent, family friendly event in solidarity against Northern Pass and Trailbreaker. It’ll take place on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 3-3:30p.

This event is occurring to protect forests, farms, villages, and ancestral lands in New Hampshire.

–To preserve the natural beauty crucial to tourism, New Hampshire’s number 1 industry
–To support the rights and needs of citizens over corporate profits
–To encourage local green energy initiates over foreign energy
–To promote public health, responsible citizenship, and democracy in action

Northern Pass is a 180 mile project proposed by PSNH to bring power to Massachusetts and Connecticut from Hydro-Quebec. The project will scar the New Hampshire landscape with over 1000 towers up to 140 feet from Pittsburg to Deerfield.

Occupy Maine

Occupy Maine is a movement that stands in solidarity with but is independent from Occupy Wall Street and other “Occupy” protests across the country, as well as the world. Originally established October First in Monument Sq. located in downtown Portland, Maine; Occupy Maine soon had occupation sites all over the state including Augusta, Bangor, Brunswick, Kennebunk, Aroostook County, Biddiford, Mount Desert Island, and Waldo County. The Portland Occupy Maine group moved its encampment from Monument Sq. to Lincoln Park, Portland oldest public park, on October 3rd, 2011. The Lincoln Park encampment was one of the countries longest running occupation sites before it was peacefully evicted from the park by the city of Portland on Friday Feb, 10th 2011.

In accordance with the Occupy Wall Street slogan “you cannot evict an idea whose time has come” the Occupy Maine group in Portland has continued to and will continue to be active after the Lincoln Park eviction. OM has established an office located at the Meg Perry Center a facility with a great tradition of social activism. All are welcome to drop by to get involved or simply gather information. Occupy Vermont is YOU! We welcome ALL people- people of all abilities, classes, colors, races, cultures, creeds, beliefs, faiths, genders, sexual preferences and identities, people with disabilities- people from all walks of life to attend our assemblies and join our working groups. We use a tool known as a “general assembly” to facilitate collective decision making in an open, participatory and non-binding manner. In other words, we all just decide together what we all agree we really want, and then we voluntarily accomplish it together. Occupy Vermont is the manifested power of the people.
