Mon, Feb 11 Move to Amend’s WE THE PEOPLE AMENDMENT will be introduced in Congress!
Posted February 10th, 2013 by jackiews • permalink
We told you there was big news coming and here it is:
Today, Mon, Feb 11 Move to Amend’s WE THE PEOPLE AMENDMENT will be introduced in Congress!
The We the People Amendment is the only amendment that deals with both Supreme Court doctrines that grant constitutional rights to artificial entities and that define spending money as free speech.
There are still many steps along the way, but this is a major milestone for the movement to amend!
Move to Amend will not now become a Congressional lobbying effort (not at this point). In fact now more than ever it is critical that we reach and educate the American people — letting them know that there is a movement to get corporations out of our Constitution and big money out of our political process, and getting them involved.
What you can do:
On Monday go to http://WeThePeopleAmendment.org for photos, video and updates on the coverage of the amendment drop. SHARE THESE UPDATES WITH YOUR FRIENDS via Facebook, Twitter and email! Let’s make this viral!
Ben Manski will be on Reddit.com at 1pm Eastern / 10am Pacific doing an “Ask Me Anything” interview about the We the People Amendment and Move to Amend. Tune in!
Ask your friends to sign the Move to Amend petition to get involved in the campaign.
If you’re not already active in Move to Amend — now’s the time. Sign up to volunteer with an existing local MTA group or start one in your community.
Make a donation to Move to Amend to support our work. We are a grassroots organization supported by donations from individuals like you.
We are proud of this significant success, but you won’t see us resting on our laurels in the weeks and months to come. We know there is still work to do to ensure victory and we know you are with us to see it through to the end. Thanks for that!
Yours for democracy,
Ashley Sanders, Ben Manski, Daniel Lee, David Cobb, Egberto Willies, George Friday, Jerome Scott, Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, Laura Bonham, Nancy Price
Move to Amend National Leadership Team
PS — Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for coverage on the amendment drop at http://WeThePeopleAmendment.org. We need all hands on deck to help spread the word and make this announcement viral!

Trial for Six Defendants from Occupy the Courts Arrests

Washington, DC – January 20, 2012 marked the second anniversary of the US Supreme Court split (5-4) decision in Citizens United v FEC establishing that “corporate personhood” is constitutional and protected by the First Amendment – a corporation is a person, and money is free speech. This ruling overturned a bipartisan election law (BCRA 2002)[1], which limited corporate finance funding in political campaigns.

Testify!
Posted July 19th, 2012 by MoveToAmend • permalink
After last week’s postponement and rescheduling of the upcoming Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights hearing, it is time for a quick review:
In early June, Move To Amend (MTA) learned the hearing was set for July 17 and began an effort to elicit an invitation, which culminated in a national call-in day on June 29 to Senator Durbin’s office. Unfortunately, Durbin’s office has elected to allow only three citizens to speak at the hearing. And none of them include Move to Amend representatives. We have been invited to provide written testimony, which we have done.
What have we learned so far?
• Move To Amend members are highly motivated and committed to our goal. In just several weeks time, we mobilized from local meetings with sub-committee members to a national action, which jammed the switchboards at Senator Durbin’s office. It is a very impressive outcome, which speaks volumes about the character and commitment of our membership.
We know what you know!
• Movements have never been lead by Congress. People like you are who lead social movements, through coalitions like Move to Amend.
• This inside-the-beltway effort is only one tactic within our larger strategy to empower and unite people from all walks of life to build a movement to let Congress know that they serve the people, not corporations, and to underscore the “We the People” in our Constitution.
What steps will we take next?
• MTA is joining with other organizations to collect citizen testimony, because that’s what really matters. Considering how difficult it is to get in to testify before Congress, we figure it is best to testify directly to the American people.
We invite you to add your voice by submitting written and/or video testimony, and encourage you to be creative; think haiku, interpretive dance, or song to express yourself and explain why the amendment must go deeper than merely overturning Citizens United, it must make clear that a corporation is not a person and money is not speech.
>> It’s easy to do, just click here for details.
We will succeed in our overall goal. Collectively, we are the ones Margaret Mead referred to when she said:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
In admiration and solidarity,
Ashley Sanders, Ben Manski, Daniel Lee, David Cobb, Egberto Willies, George Friday, Jerome Scott, Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, Laura Bonham, Nancy Price, and Stephen Justino

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Terry Allen says:
I agree with this one. People are persons. Corporations are just a company doing buisness. People have rights. Buisnesses have rights as well, but of a diffrent sort. The two are not the same, and it is silly to treat them as such.
