Santa Rosa, California
Occupy Sonoma County and Positive Images will present a Gender Awareness and Education Teach-in on Monday, November 7th from 7-9 pm at the Peace and Justice Center, 467 Sebastopol Ave. in Santa Rosa.
This teach-in will address common questions pertaining to gender non-conforming youth and adults such as what gender is, what non-binary means, how gender affects friends and family, and what it means to be transgender.
Youth and adult volunteers will share their experiences, explain misconceptions, give tips on how to be supportive as an ally, and answer questions about gender.
“Our goal is to provide the community with tools and knowledge to maintain strong healthy relationships with their loved ones regardless of gender. Join us to learn and help us build a safe and welcoming community for everyone”, said Aiden Yu Martin of Positive Images.
Positive Images provides support and advocacy to Sonoma County’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersexed youth and young adults, ages 12-24, and educates the greater community. “We envision a Sonoma County where all youth are valued, compassionate community members, creating a just society.”
“We live in a society that is ridden with various interconnected forms of repression that are divisive, unfair, and un-needed. Occupy Sonoma County is consciously and urgently working to dismantle systems of oppression. We are working on creating a common unity where everyone’s autonomy is respected, protected, and treated equally,” said Stefana Morales, Occupy activist.
The teach-in is free, but donations are welcome!
