Today in the Cook County Criminal Courthouse, the NATO 3 were sentenced to between 5 and 8 years in prison. Brian Jacob Church was sentenced to 5 years, Brent Betterly to 6 years, and Jared Chase to 8 years. They will all serve this time at 50% of the sentenced time (e.g., 6 year sentence equals 3 years served) and will receive credit for the two years they have served pending trial. Upon release, they will each have two years of supervised release as well. Continue reading

There was good news that came out of court today. Judge Zweibel has now allowed the defense to ask the officer who sexually assaulted Cecily about previous assault cases that he was involved in. Previously, Judge Zweibel threatened Marty Stolar, Cecily’s Lawyer with contempt of court if he brought his past assault cases up. The trial starts again on Friday, April 11th @ 9:30am, 100 Centre St. Rm. 1116, Part 41. Continue reading
Today was the first day of Cecily McMillan’s trial, beginning with jury selection. Given the high profile of Occupy Wall Street in New York City, it will be difficult to find jurors who are not biased one way or another. The courtroom was at capacity today with the front rows filled with potential jurors and the back rows with supporters. Continue reading
