For decades, Walmart has been dragging down wages, forcing their workers to accept irregular hours, then intimidating, punishing, and firing workers who dare to stand up for themselves.
This November 29th, on the biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday, Walmart workers are standing up at over 1,500 protests across the country, calling for an end to retaliation against those who bravely speak out and a real wage of $25,000/yr.
Now is your chance to have Walmart workers’ backs by engaging in non-violent civil disobedience on that day. Stand with workers, clergy, elected officials and community members to tell Walmart and the Walton heirs that the time has come for change.
And there is hope for change. #BlackFriday actions are planned at Walmarts all over the US. To date Walmart workers have courageously gone on strike in Dallas, Cincinnati, and Southern California in protest of Walmart’s substandard pay practices and attempts to silence employees. They work for one of the most profitable companies in the world, and the way they are treated is shameful, even by 1%-er standards.
If you are in the NYC area, there is a bus transporting occupiers to the Walmart in Secaucus, NJ at 400 Park Plaza. The action will begin at noon and will wrap no later than 2pm. Once you register, you will be directed to a form that you can fill out if you want a seat on our buses from NY to NJ–leaving at 11am.
The time has come for Walmart — which would be the 25th largest economy in the world if it were a country — to give its full time employees a livable annual salary.
Walmart workers are mobilizing to take action on Black Friday and the time has come for the 99% to support them directly. Join us:
