residents, local unemployed community members, students, seniors,
low-wage workers from various industries including janitors, and
workers from car washes and supermarkets, and elected officials,
community members from UnitedNY, Make the Road Action Fund, LaFuente,
New York Communities for Change, SEIU 32BJ, New York Central Labor
Council, G.O.L.E.S., VOCAL-NY, Community Voices Heard, Committee of
Interns and Residents, Rekindling Reform, Citizen Action,
Goddard-Riverside Community Center, Institute for Puerto Rican and
Hispanic Elderly, Metro New York Health Care for All Campaign, Strong
Economy for All Coalition
WHAT: News conference to call for United States Senators,
Congressional Representatives to make the right choices for New York’s
families, including job creation, emergency aid, an increase in the
federal minimum wage, and maintenance of Medicare, and Medicaid. After
the news conference, groups will continue relief efforts for residents
coping with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 8 at Noon
WHERE: Campos Plaza, Ave C and 12th Street in Manhattan (adjacent to
the blown-out Con-Ed substation)
WHY: Two days after voters across America rejected the Romney-Ryan
“You’re On Your Own” philosophy to gut vital services and provide tax
breaks for the wealthy, it is imperative that New York’s elected
representatives protect infrastructure funding to help New York
rebuild. Speakers will include voters, students, senior citizens,
low-wage workers, and others who depend on their federal
representatives to make the right choices for American families when
they return to Washington for the Lame Duck session.
