Montreal, March 13, 2013 – Idle No More Quebec encourages people and organizations who work in solidarity with Indigenous and environmental causes to respond to the global call to action IDLE NO MORE. As part of World Water Day, Idle No More denounces the policies of the federal Conservative government, in the form of omnibus legislation such as C-38 and C-45, which remove the protection 99.9% of rivers and 99 7% of lakes in Canada. These laws are infringements of rights of Indigenous Peoples and Canadian citizens. They also endanger the environment and the sustainability of future generations.

Bill C-45 revised the Navigable Waters Protection Act of 1982 (now renamed Navigation Protection Act) and Bill C-38 introduced further changes to this law to subtract pipelines and power lines to the provisions of the law. The main proponents of these amendments are not required to prove that they do not damage or destroy a waterway through it unless the river is on a list drawn up by Transport Canada.

Idle No More Quebec invites Quebec communities to respond to this call for 3 days of mobilization. You are invited to participate, engage your community and join in solidarity in this fight!
