On Martin Luther King Day, January 21st at 2pm EST, Strike Debt NYC will hold a discussion titled “Privilege, Debt, & Common Struggle: Where Do We Go From Here?”  In NYC, we will deepen our understanding of Dr. King’s legacy, enrich our analysis of the debt system, consider ways to build alternatives, and begin to pave a way forward based on unity, solidarity and common struggle.

Additional events are being planned by Strike Debt groups around the country during the week before and after.

If you are not in NYC, or wish to participate after January 21st, you can use these resources:

Visioning Workbook: http://strikedebt.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Visioning-Workbook.pdf

Poll Questions: http://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=20360e&t=20360e.40

We believe this is a powerful opportunity to build a larger, nation-wide conversation, so we are encouraging Strike Debt groups and friends around the country to host events during the week after MLK Day by breaking into small discussion groups and completing a workbook that will be available on our website.  If you have an event planned, or if you’d like to participate as a group or an individual, we invite you to email us with the details: organize@strikedebt.org.

If you cannot attend an event, but would still like to participate in the conversation, you can watch our video broadcast, interact in realtime via Twitter, as well as participate in a set of Google Moderator polls that will allow us to collect data on ideas and sentiments.  Please refer to the website for information and links.

We’d like your help in building out and promoting these events as a nationwide movement-building opportunity.  Here’s how:

  • And here’s the main site which will contain the NYC agenda and participant workbook, as well as all the up-to-the-minute information we receive about nationwide events: http://strikedebt.org/mlkday
  • And, finally, please spread the word!!!
