Statement of Autonomy

InterOccupy Statement of Autonomy

We at InterOccupy seek to foster communication between individuals, working groups and local General Assemblies across the movement. We do this in the spirit of the Occupy Movement, and General Assemblies, which use direct democratic and horizontal decision-making processes in service to the interests of the 99%.

Therefore we wish to acknowledge and confirm that we at InterOccupy are an independent contributor in service of the Movement. We are a party-less, leaderless, by the people and for the people, democratic organization of individuals. We are not a business, a political party, an advertising campaign or a brand. We wish to reiterate that InterOccupy is not and never has been affiliated with any established political party, candidate or organization. We are simply a service to the Movement. We are not for sale.

We welcome all to participate, who, in good faith, seek to unify the movement through building bridges of local, regional, national, and international communication. We provide tools for facilitated communication in person, through conference calls and with our web presence. We invite all General Assemblies to utilize this tool to communicate and coordinate.

Any statement or declaration released through any General Assembly via Committees of Correspondence will be made public online at This service should be considered independent of any single Occupation or General Assembly, however the organizational team is made up of individuals associated with General Assemblies across the country. Every individual in every GA is free to join the effort of InterOccupy but no GA has direct control of the processes, logistics, or messaging.

The people who are working together to create this project are its sole and mutual caretakers. If you have chosen to devote time, resources, and labor to building bridges of communication within the Movement, then we are yours.

Any organization is welcome to support us with the knowledge that doing so will require you to integrate our principles of horizontal democratic processes into your modes of action.

InterOccupy values collective resources, dignity, integrity and autonomy above money, property, and prestige. We have not made nor ever will make endorsements. The working group is open to all who would participate and adhere to the Code of Conduct and Principles of Accountability.

We acknowledge the existence of professional activists who work to make our world a better place. If you are representing, or being compensated by an independent source while participating in our process, please disclose your affiliation at the outset. Those seeking to capitalize on this movement or undermine it by appropriating its message or symbols are not a part of the Movement or InterOccupy.
